Sun, Sand and Surf
One of the main attractions of Cocoa Beach is its pristine beaches, which is two blocks from Launchpad 226. These sandy shores are perfect for a relaxing day at the beach and the gentle waves and warm waters make it an ideal spot for spending time in the water. For those looking for a bit more adventure, Cocoa Beach is renowned for its surfing. With consistent waves year-round, it’s a popular spot for both novice and experienced surfers. Don’t have your own board? No problem— our favorite spot for equipment rentals is AIA Outdoors, a short distance from Launchpad 226, where you can also inquire about a lesson or two. They will gladly deliver boards, bikes and gear for your beach adventures.
The Cocoa Beach Pier
A visit to Cocoa Beach wouldn’t be complete without a stroll along the historic Cocoa Beach Pier, within a short 10-minute walk of Launchpad 226. Extending 800 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, the pier is a hub of activity. You can fish, shop, dine, or simply take in the breathtaking views. The pier is home to several restaurants and bars where you can enjoy fresh seafood and tropical drinks while listening to live music. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset and experience the vibrant local atmosphere. A favorite is to enjoy seafood and a drink on the end of the pier at the Rikki Tiki Tavern.
Ecological Adventures
For nature lovers, Cocoa Beach offers abundant outdoor activities and adventures. The nearby Banana River Lagoon is a haven for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing and eco-tours. Here, you can explore mangrove tunnels, spot manatees and dolphins, and observe a variety of bird species. The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, located just north of Cocoa Beach, is another fantastic spot for wildlife viewing, with over 140,000 acres of protected land and a diverse array of habitats. The waters are known or world-class fishing and if you are lucky, you can experience bioluminescence in the evening.
Space Enthusiasts
A visit to the Kennedy Space Center is an unforgettable experience that takes you on a journey through the history and future of space exploration. Located just a short drive from Cocoa Beach, this iconic destination offers a wealth of interactive exhibits, awe-inspiring displays, and hands-on activities that captivate visitors of all ages. Launchpad 226 is a short drive from the Space Center, but if you are lucky to time your visit with a launch, all you have to do is walk 2 blocks to the beach and have a front row seat.
